No they can't (won't...) send you a download link.
They WILL sell you a new CD if you send the old one back. It's not that
expensive, you can find out more by ringing your local Microsoft office.
But before you do that, let's first prove that it's not the drive. Put CD
(any other CD...) and see if it will read that. If not, you can try a CD
Lens Cleaner. These are available from music and computer shops. They look
like a CD with a brush on one side. They often don't work, but it's only
going to cost you five bucks to find out.
If the other CD will read, try cleaning your CD. GENTLY wipe the
non-labelled side in a circular motion with a SOFT paper towel moistened
with a squirt of window cleaner. Then carefully examine it for dirt. Since
it is ejecting right at the beginning, the problem is right at the inside
(CDs and DVDs are opposite to vinyl records: the music starts in the middle
and works out...)
Since we are dealing with a laser here, a spec of dirt smaller than a
fly-spec, or a scratch, is often enough to cause these failures.
If there is no sign of dirt or scratches on the non-printed side, carefully
examine the label side of the CD.
Hold it up to a strong light and see if you can see any pinholes in it. The
data on a CD or DVD is just under the paint on the labelled side, so if the
paint has been scratched, you may not be able to recover the CD. You can
try covering the scratched paint with a black marker (not a label or
anything heavy enough to throw the disk off balance).
Failing that, last time I asked, Microsoft would sell you a replacement CD
for 20 bucks.
Cheers
Hey, i don't think the disc tray on my mac is working as whenever i
put in a CD it ejects it out after a few seconds. So i'm trying to
install my Microsoft Off 2004 but it keeps ejecting the disc out.
However, it's not accepted it and the install window has appeared but
when i try to install it it just doesn't do anything! Can microsoft
send me office via a download link as i could just type in my product
key?!
