Disconnect Resource Pool

I have inherited a number of project plans that are connected to a resource
pool. It does not appear that the previous PMs were actively using the
resource pool so I am considering disconnecting the plans from it. If I
simply disconnect the links to the resource pool will it affect any of the
data in the underlying plans?

If you aren't using any of the advantages of the pool (such as the
ability to see and level resource usage across the pool) then it is an
unnecessary complication.

Would it not be better (and a business improvement to boot) to reverse
current practise. The easiest route is not necessarily the best!

It won't affect anything in your plans. All Resource data you need is
automatically copied to your schedule on disconnect. Make sure you have the
resource pool open in read/write mode when disconnecting then disconnect and
save your projects AND the pool. Failure to do this can occasionally lead to
corruption. The only data loss will be that others using the pool will not
be able to see what resources you need and so balance resource workloads
across all projects.
