Discussion Group Users Registration

L

Lisa

hello,
I just created a front page discussion group for my web site. I used the
wizard and answered Yes when asked if users must be registered. I then used
the wizard to create a user registration page. I cannot find, however, how
to add the link to have users login and logout, and how to view the
registered users for maintenance. Do I create a database myself to keep them
in or does front page do that on the server when I register this site? Is
there a paper that explains this entire process somewhere? I feel as though
I have bits and pieces of it, but don't understand how they work together.

Thank you in advance!
Lisa

The FP registration component is a self registration, meaning anyone can register, and the data is
stored on the server, and the function only works on Unix/Linux servers. If you want to manage your
users, then you don't want to use this.

Thank you Thomas. I don't necessarily need to manage the users, I just don't
see where I have the users log in after they have created their login name.
Where is that?

Thanks, Lisa

Thanks again Thomas. A quick read of the links shows that the root web must
be protected and I can't just protect the discussion web page. The site is
to sell vintage beads and beaded jewelry. We thought it would also be nice
to add a discussion group since we would be getting traffic from people who
bead and are interested in beaded jewelry. I don't want customers to have to
register to look at our products. I will have to think this over and maybe
just open up the discussion page to anyone, although I'm afraid of trolls (I
think that's what they call the idiots who flood newsgroups with unrelated
nonsense). Thanks again for you help! Lisa

1) the root web does not have to be protected, but the registration page must be in the root web
- the self registration controls a protected subweb
(read the instructions in the user registration page template)
Also make sure you are on a Unix Host that supports subwebs w/ unique permissions
2) whether you protect it or not, make the DW a subweb or your root web publishing will eventually corrupt it (overwriting posts)
