Disk Space Allocations

Hi, I am in the process of coordinating the infrastructure for a large
Project Server 2003 deployment. We anticipate having 6000 plans and a large
time-phased data window. I have to inform the storage folks how I want my
SAN disks configured. I will 3 SQL servers, two of which are clustered
together. The two clustered servers will each have 5 disks, 3 of which I
have to specify size requirements on. These 3 disks contain the following:
Disk 1 - tempdb, Disk 2 - user database files and Disk 3 - transaction
logs/non-clustered indices. The space total for the 3 disks is 90 GB. My
inclination is to have 50 GB for the user database files and 20 GB each for
the tempdb and transaction logs/non-clustered indices. Since we have not yet
conducted a data load exercise, I have no experience to base my estimates on.
I can provide more details if required. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sizing an installation like this is not a casual news group exercise. It
seems to me that 90g is tight, but you should be ok providing you manage
your log file growth. But, again, this is not a simple question, and you
haven't begun to provide the necessary information to propose a scaled
deployment recommendation

Gary,

I realize I haven't provided all of the information required to perform a
detailed analysis. Unfortunately, I had to provide SAN disk size details to
my technical services group in order for them to set up my servers with the
SAN disk connections. This has to be completed before I install Project
Server in our test and production environments. We always can add more disks
to this configuration, so I am not at risk of running out of space.

Can't give you a better answer than what I gave you other than reinforce my
warning about the log files. Sounds tight to me.
