Hi Liz -
First, this is the newsgroup for Mac XL - 2002 (XP) is a Windows version,
but the general response will be roughly the same.
If this is just something that you want to check from time to time you can
easily go to File>Properties>General where the Modification Date is tracked
for you automatically.
If there is some reason you need to have this constantly displayed or
available for calculations, I believe you will need to employ some VBA.
Since there is somewhat of a difference Mac/Windows you might want to post
the question in the Windows XL group, although most of the other MVPs here
work both sides of the street. Actually, I do too, but VBA just ain't my
strong suit
