How do i get an envelope to appear in the taskbar/system tray when a new
message arrives using Outlook 2000 on a xp pro pc. I think there may be a
policy in place preventing this or am I just really dumb?
Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using Windows XP? If so, the icon may be there but XP is 'hiding'
it. If there's a small arrow icon in the tray, click it and see if the icon
shows up

Yes using xp but in Classic mode, so nothing is hiding. I can get the new
message window to appear in the middle of the screen but not the more subtle
envelope icon.
Thanx for helping out, any other suggestions or anyone else care to lend a
hand ?

While you say there is nothing being hidden, just for grins, right-click the
system tray and choose Customize Notifications. Look for "You have new
unopened items". Does it have a setting of "Always show"? It should.

Unfortunately in classic shell I cannot right click the system tray. This
classic setting is through group policy so cannot be changed. I'm still
convinced the problem lies in gp somewhere.
Thanx for the replies - will get to the bottom of it eventually (hopefully)
