When I save, import, or other action that opens a folder, all the items in
the folder are listed according to the last tiem accessed from Word. I need
them in alphabetical order, as I usually do not go back to the most rcent one
and there is usually not a way to click on the title bar to resort the
folder. Is there a way to set the default back to sorting alphabeticall all
the time?

Right-click a blank area in the file list and choose Arrange Icons By >
Name.

An alternative is to choose View > Details and then click the Name column
header.

That choice should stay until you change the sort order to something else.

Thanks, Jay. This works, but it is an awful nuisance to have to do this 20
times a day. Is there any way to set this as the default? As a long-time
(since 1981) MS Office user, I find Office 2007 illogical and far more
time-consuming to do normal everyday tasks.

As Jay said, once you've set it this way, it should stick until/unless you
change it.

If you are using Word 2007 in Vista, then Word is using Vista Explorer as
its file open dialog. So you need to make Windows Explorer set to the
correct view for this to be consistent.
