Display of email contacts in Outlook 2000

Some of the email details in my contacts folder show the full email address,
and some just the display name. I understand that this may be as a result of
importing adresses from another application, probably OE, where the names
have been 'resolved'. It is a bit of a niusance to check that I am using the
desired email address, which may not always be the default email address
associated with the display name.

I should like, oddly enough, for the email addresses to be shown in the
email address boxes in the contact list, rather than the display name. Can
someone advise me how this can be done, without re-entering all the email
adresses?

I am using the internet mail version of Outlook 2000, not the corporate
version. Upgrading to a newer version is not an option at the moment.

TIA

No such option is available in IMO. Not sure why you need it since it would
only be a cosmetic change.

Thanks for your reply.

The reason is, that I would like to be able to see the actual email address
in the email address field. Many contacts have multiple email addresses for
diffferent purposes (business, personal, specific jobs etc.) and I would
prefer to know at a glance, which address I am writing to, without having to
double check. This seems to be the purpose of having multiple email address
fields in Outlook in the first place!

Some of my contacts have one field showing the display name, and others
showing email addresses, so I have to double check the addresses. This is
not in all cases. It just seems to be inconsistent, although not
insurmountable, and leads to extra checking.

I suppose my question is simply, can I ensure the email addresses are
displayed in the email address field, and not a default email address shown
as a display name?

Maybe I am missing something obvious, but this would seem to be desireable.
I have a feeling that it is something to do with the relationship between
the address book and the contacts folder, but I don't quite know what. (BTW
I am no expert, otherwise I wouldn't be posting this query!)

Any help would be appreciated, if indeed anything can be done.

IMO provides no access to the Display as field, which is what controls the
appearance of the recipient in the To: field.
You can switch to Corp/Workgroup mode. It allows access to the Display as
field when you double click in the email address in the Contact Record. Make
sure Corp/Workgroup mode meets you other needs before you make the switch.
For information on choosing a support mode or changing to the other support
mode, look here:

It may not completely solve it, but at least I understand the options
better!

Many thanks.

Better solutions are forthcoming in later versions. After Outlook 2000,
Microsoft changed the default Display As field to include both the familiar
name and the email address and made the Display as field much more
accessible.
