Display Select Styles in Formatting Toolbar

Our templates have some styles that I want users to be able to select
from the toolbar. . . and many (like those used for style refs) that I
do not want them to select from the toolbar. Is there a way to limit
what they can see in the formatting toolbar while retaining all the
styles available in Format/Styles?
