Displaying a colored bar for different project versions (or project summary versions) in the Project

Hello,

In the Project Center view, is it possible, in the Gantt Chart section,
to display multiple versions of a project as different colored bars on
the SAME line, just like the baseline and the current plan are
displayed on the same line (but with different bar formats) in the
tracking view?

Under Admin/Customize Project Web Access/Gantt Chart formats, the
Project Center Gantt chart views show "Project Summary Version 1"
"Project Summary Version 2", ... "Project Summary Version 5" and
allows to display these and assign them different formats and colors,
but I have not figured out how to practically use this:

Are these "Project Summary Version X" referring to different versions
of the project or different versions of the summary? How then would one
set a summary version?

What fields should be included in the view to allow the "Project
Summary Version 1" displayed as a separate bar?

In the default installation of Project Server, the only existing version is
the Published version. To use alternate Versions in Project Server, your
Project Server administrator must create at least one alternate Version for
use in the system. For example, in the Project Server Sample Database,
Microsoft uses an alternate Version called Target. This Version shows the
original state of the project after baselining, but before actuals were
entered in the project. Using the Compare Project Versions tool (View -
Toolbars - Compare Project Versions), you can later compare the Published
version of the project with the Target version to see all changes made
during the life of the project

When your Project Server administrator creates the alternate Version, he/she
can specify a different Gantt Bar Name other than the default Project
Summary. To get the alternate Version to display with a different color
Gantt bar, he/she should pick an option from Project Summary Version 1
through Project Summary Version 5.

To save an alternate version of a project, do the following:

1. Open the Published version of any project
2. Click File - Save As
3. Click the Version pick list and select an alternate Version
4. Click the Save button
5. Click Collaborate - Publish - Project Plan

Step #5 above causes Project Server to display the alternate Version of the
project in the Project Center page. You must publish the alternate Version
or else it will not show up in the Project Center. When Project Server
displays the alternate Version of the project, it displays it on a separate
line from the Published version. Thus, you cannot get both Versions to show
up on the same line and show top and bottom Gantt bars on the same Gantt bar
line. Hope this helps.

A little twist on the question below......

In the Project Center view or in MS Project itself, is it possible, in
the Gantt Chart section, to display different summary tasks of a
project as different colored bars on the SAME line? For example, if my
plan has 3 phases that equate to 3 summary tasks, can I show phase 1 as
a blue bar; phase 2 as a green bar and phase 3 as a yellow bar all of
the SAME line?

thx!

I do not believe this is possible in either PWA or in Microsoft Project
Professional. Sorry.

Dale - one more follow on question -

Has anyone deciphered the schema for PWA and created summary or
detailed reports with Crystal or SQL Reporting services. If so, are
they willing to share it?

thx!
