displaying French characters in English Outlook

I have English Outlook 2003, but import a lot of French language
appointments into the calendar. All the French accented characters show up
incorrectly. Presumably I have to change a character set somewhere in
Outlook - but where?

How do you "import" these appointments? Use of the 'Import' function has
many undesired side effects; maybe you should try another way of
obtaining your appointments?
