Displaying project data

Is it possible to show the task information in a timeline? For example, I have 1 main task & 4 subtasks and I want to show the data for the 4 subtasks in one linear timeline, as opposed to the stepped, linked layout.
Is it possible to export that data into a powerpoint chart?
I am trying to automatically produce a chart instead of manually updating the powerpoint chart from the project data
Thanks much for any assistance.

Laura,
Yes and yes. Project isn't very versatile when it comes to the graphic
part of a Gantt Chart view, however for your example it is possible to
show the 4 subtasks at the summary task level where they would all be on
one timeline. I answered another similar post a couple of weeks ago. The
response I provided is reprinted below.

"The only way I know to get multiple tasks on a single line is to make
the line a summary line with AAA, BBB & CCC as subtasks. Then, roll up
the individual subtasks to the summary.

As far as getting different colored blocks at the summary level here is
a process I posted in a similar message a couple of weeks ago.
1. Assign all tasks in each of the four color groups to a Flag field
(i.e. Flag1 = Red tasks, Flag2 = Blue tasks, etc.)
2. Go to Format/Barstyles
3. In the Appearance column set up a separate color bar for each phase
4. In the Show For...Tasks column select "Rolled up, FlagX" to map the
appropriate task types to the desired color
5. You may also want to "clear" the barstyle for Summary and Project
Summary by setting the Bar Start, Middle & End to nothing
6. Now set each task for Rollup to Summary. You can do this through the
Task Information window or, temporarily insert a column for the Rollup
field and set each task that way.

This should at least get you started in the right direction."

With regard to a PowerPoint chart there are a couple of ways to go. The
simplest method is to use the "Copy Picture" icon (the little camera).
You will have to experiment a little to get the right mix of task lines
(use filtering if necessary) and timescale settings to mimimize the
cropping that will be required. A more flexible but more complex method
is to use VBA to interface Project data (including graphics data) with
PowerPoint. With this method you can create single timelines of multiple
tasks but it does require VBA experience.

If you are interested in 3rd party applications, you might take a look
at Kidasa.com. They have a suite of applications called "Milestones"
that might meet your needs.

Hope this helps.
