Distributing OWC questions / problems

Is there a cab installation of OWC 10/11 available?....from what I can find
on MS's site it's just available as an exe, and this will be quite a pain in
the ass because a large portion of my users dont know/care how to save/run
an exe. And also, when using a shared license (LPK file), is it possible to
load it from anything other than an http source? Microsoft states that you
cannot make the LPK file exposed to the internet, so one would logically
think you could somehow provide a local intranet path to the lpk file, so
that even if your server is exposed to the internet, the lpk file will not
be, however I cannot get this to work, the only way I can get it to work is
over http.

Also, on an unrelated topic, how does this newsgroup tie in to the MS office
developers discussion group at
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx ? I assumed
they were one and the same, because I did a post in there and got a reply in
this newsgroup, but the reply didn't make it onto that site....They appear
to share some posts, but are nowhere near in sync...I'm confused :p

couple days or something :)

you cannot distribute the office web components. there is no workaround for
that. distribution must come from the source disk or the microsoft office
site.

i missed your lpk question, would you mind restating?

My LPK is problem is this: I'm writing a web-based app which uses the OWC
objects. I want to give the ability for a sysadmin to use an lpk file to
enable interactivity on clients which would usually be read-only. My
problem is that sometimes my app is installed exposed to the internet, and
in such cases it would be a breach of MS's licensing.
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555094) which
states 'all internet shared licensing is necessarily a breach of the new
licensing terms of use'. I realise that if someone installed my app on the
internet, and setup the lpk file, it would be them breeching the license,
not me, but it would be nice if I could force them to have the lpk file on
an intranet share, so that they could set it up such that the lpk file would
work for any clients accessing the page from their corporate intranet, but
it would fail for any clients accessing from the internet. It appears
however that the license management object will only accept an LPK file from
an http source.

the LPK cannot be configured the way you want it done. there currently is no
work around for what you want to do given the licensing terms and conditions
