Many discuss how to create a distribution list from contacts, but if you've
done so already and accidently deleted these contacts . . how do you
extract/copy them from the list and (preferably leaving list itself unaltered)
reestablish them as fully detailed contacts again?

If any Outlook Guru can help me with this snafu, I'd be most grateful.

Thank-you,
Elaine

A Distribution List hold no contact information other then a display name
and an email address. If you've deleted a contact, there is no way to
recover all the contact's details from a distribution list. You'll have to
recover from backup or key in the information again.

Or she could convert the DL to a CSV file and import that into her Contacts.
At least the names and addresses would be there.

And converting a DL to a delimited file is easy: Just save it as a .txt file.
Open it in Notepad and take out the first few lines that aren't contact names
and addresses. Save the file, and you'll have a nice, clean tab-delimited
file that Outlook can import.

Roady,
A distribution list sent to someone else reveals only display name and email
addresss. However, since I am the creator of the list, when an individual on
the list is double-clicked, all details (i.e. address, website, phone, etc)
are revealed. Thus, all info is still viewable by me. However, the list is
quite long and I want to avoid rekeying the info as individual contacts. I
find it hard to believe there is no simple way to export to contacts.

Any other advice folks? :)

Many thanks for your help,

Elaine

Nonetheless, they are not in the DL itself and you cannot save a DL and expect
to obtain that information during the save. If you double-click a member and
see a Contact form, then you must have that member in a Contact folder
somewhere, perhaps in the GAL, if you use an Exchange server.
