Distribution Lists and Contacts

Here is my problem. I have a distribution list in a public
folder. Also in this folder are the address cards for all
of the contacts that are in the distribution list.

When I update a contact by double clicking on it, why
isn't it updated automatically in the distribution list,
and vice versa?
