Distribution Lists

Tipster

It appears to me that after a Distribution List is created
and placed in Personal Address Book, that the e-mail
address is not updated within the Distribution List if I
update an individual contact To me the system should use
the latest & greatest contact information when it applies
a Distribution List. I have to remember to remove the
name then add it back in.

Is there an update key or should this be automaic?

Are you really using a PAB? You should be using your Contacts Folder.

If I am supposed to put them in Contacts, can I copy
something from PAB to Contacts easily?

I always used the PAB for distribution lists that I
created from a variety of entry sources.

Thanks

Hold on. I just realized you haven't posted your Outlook version yet. Please
always post that when you ask questions.

Russ, I'd like to add my request to this original
question. I have Outlook 2002 on Windows XP. I have the
same problem. As I understand it, when I press "Update
Now" in an opened Distribution List (in the Contacts
Folder)any changes that were made to the e-mail addresses
in the individual Contact records should be updated in the
Distribution List. Sometimes they do, sometimes not. Not
often enough to be trusted, at least. It seems to work
when the Distribution List is fairly new, or maybe fairly
small, but I am not sure there is any connection. This was
also a problem for me in Outlook 2000, which I had hoped
would be cured in OL 2002. Any ideas?

I've found exactly the same thing. The Update Now feature seems only to work
reliably if the Contacts and the DL were all created in the currently
running version of Outlook (and the sun is shining). Otherwise, it fails.
You'll notice DL's still have lots of bugs.
