I am trying to clear out old distribution lists, not just the names in them.
I would like to know how to delete a complete distribution list when you to
into the to: and click on a list. I am using Outlook 2003

Start typing the list's name in the To field. When it pops up, use the
arrow keys to select it, then press Delete.

That said, it doesn't delete the DL from your Contacts folder, only from the
autocompletion cache. Open Contacts, select the DL and click or press
Delete.
