Dividing one cell by another when they contain different data type

B

Beauvaidos

In Excel (Ofc 2002) ... How can I divide $300 (formatted as a number or
currency) by 57:15:00 (formatted as a time, number of hours worked) to get a
$/hr result of $5.24/hr.

It seems that the time cell is converted to a real number (2.39 ??) and
therefore the formula returns $125.42 ...

Please help?

You need to know that time is stored as a fraction of a day.
So with $300 in A1 and 57:15:00 in B1, use =A1/(B1*24)
You may have to format this as General
So have dollar-and-cents use =ROUND(=A1/(B1*24))

By-the-by, there are Excel newsgroups where you are more likely to get
answers to specific Excel questions

best wishes
