.DLL file

Michael Montgomery

Hello,
Windows 98; Office 97 (I think).
When attempting to open Word, I'm getting a notice of "a
required .DLL file, MSO97.DLL was not found". As a result
I cannot open Word for any word processing, nor can I
access any Word-documents that have been stored in my "MY
Documents" folder.
I have spoken to a few people about this and I've been led
to believe that the ".DLL" file is forever lost, and I
should load "Office 2000" as a fix. (yes/no)
I would certainly appreciate ANY suggestions, and yes, I'm
aware of newer systems out there, but I've been happy with
this one as my needs are not great.
Thank you all,
Michael

Reinstalling Office would probably work, but try this
first.
START - RUN - sfc - OK
This stands for System File Checker and should find the
messed up file and help you replace it. I'm hoping that
this program doesn't only check for messed up Windows
files.
You may also get that .dll file from another PC and find
out where it's supposed to be and replace it.
Anyway ... Good luck !!!

Office97 file;
Presumably you searched yr sys for this file?
Files dont get lost, only deleted/overwritten

Andrew:

SFC checks for -- you guessed it -- corrupt and/or missing Windows System
Files .

SFC does _not_ check for corrupt and/or missing Software Application files.

MSO97.DLL is, as you think, an MS Office 97 file.
Apparently that file has become corrupt.
Put your MS Office 97 CD into your computer and perform re-install.

If you do not have your MS Office 97 CD, you will _not_ find that file in
MS Office 2000, MS Office 2002 (aka XP), or MS Office 2003.

While you can purchase and install an upgrade version of MS Office 2003 on
your computer, I strongly encourage you to avoid that route -- if you
current computer dies, you will have no way to install an upgrade version of
MS Office onto a new computer (you will need your MS Office 97 CD as proof
before your new version of MS Office will install).
