What is the best way to express this statment using VB ?

DMax("[ChozeNum]","ChozeTBL")+1

ok , let me rearticulate.
when the value is zero (opening position of the field) the function doesn't
add one to the field and doesn't display field+1 where I want it to.

any idea ?
