Do current Office 2004 cd's have a "newer" version on them??

Can anyone tell me if MS, when producing their supply for retailers,
update the version of Office on the install cd's?? Meaning, I bought
mine just after Office 2004 came out. When I install and run
autoupdate, I get:
* the latest version of the autoupdate application itself
* the 11.2.3 combined updater

I was wondering if anyone, who has bought the recently (the STANDARD
edition), noticed if the version on the cd was newer than the original
release (aka version 11.2). I wonder how you would be able to tell
just from the box, if even possible.
Thanks,

I can't speak to MS practice, *specifically*, but expect they do the
same as most.

Later production runs incorporate the most current update of the
software, but they definitey do not change the content of any that have
already been produced or have shipped to retailers. As far as making a
determination from the packaging as to exactly what version # it
contains - quite unlikely (v11.0 - yes, v11.2.1 - no). Normally
packaging changes only occur for major releases, not interim updates.

As to what you may get from any one supplier depends on a number of
variables, such as the volume they sell, whether they 'rotate' their
inventory, etc. I've found it a good practice to always check the
developer's web site for updates as soon as I install new software.

Just to add my 2 cents worth...

If you purchase Microsoft products and then update them you will get the
same exact same software if you had purchased an updated version. Once
the updates are installed you'll get the same thing either way.

Aren't the updates a lot of external patches (adding more code) that may
be better intergrated in an actual new release?

No. They will be integrated exactly the same way. They replace some complete
files with other complete files.

I received an email from MS stating that they do not update the
software on the cd's....all cd's should be version 11.0, then you run
the update program to bring it upto speed.
If anyone has recently bought MS Office 2004 and it came with a later
version (11.2.1,etc.), let me know.
As it is, when I install office, I run the update: I get the latest
version of the autoupdate program itself, then it pulls in the combo
11.2.3 updater. The only file in the trash is the old autoupdate
program AND the updater from the autoupdater update (and NOT the 11.2.3
updater).

Anyone confirm similar??
