Do I need to download updates for powerpoint viewer?

Hi,

I installed powerpoint viewer 2007 yesterday, but I have no other office
2007 product installed. Today, I received notification of all these office
2007 updates, mostly security, and they are quite large. Can I ignore these
updates since I only have the viewer installed?

Ignore at your peril. Most are security updates!

Okay, but why do general Office 2007 updates apply to someone who only has
the ppt VIEWER installed, security updates or not?

Because the Update engine picks up any Office 2007 installs like your pp viewer and presumes Office 2007 is installed.. Just uncheck all that is not needed and mark it as Hide.
