earlier i was using office xp with sp2. then i upgraded to office 2003 and
also installed sp1. when the system checked for updates to office, it
suggests that i need to download and install office xp sp3. Do i need to
install office xp sp3? if no, how can i avoid its appearance in the required
downloads? If yes, will it affect functioing of office 2003?

You probably have one or more components from Office XP still installed on
your system. If you click on Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, do
you see Office XP or any other Microsoft "2002" series programs in the list
of installed programs?

Before i installed office 2003, i checked in the add/remove programs, to my
surprise, i did not find ms office over there at all. Then I inserted the
office 2003 cd. i was asked if i wanted to upgrade or install new etc, i
selected upgrade. Even now in the add/remove programs, i dont see ms office
at all. why so? you may be right, that some component of office xp may
still beinstalled, it must be Access. my office 2003 is a standard version
i.e. without Access. I dont need Access, how do i remove it, since i cant
see it in Add/Remove programs.

Is there more than one user account on this computer? Maybe Office was
installed under a different Windows login. Other than that, I'm out of
ideas. Maybe someone else will chime in with a better suggestion.
