Do I really need to install ActiveX to update office?

I am trying to update my Microsoft Office but do I really need to install
ActiveX to do this

Hi Arthur,

You can download the MS Office updates manually and install them from http://officeupdate.com without using ActiveX, but the control
that checks to see what updates you need requires the use of ActiveX.
