Do Not Run AutoNew Macro

I have a template with an AutoNew macro. I can hold the
shift key when opening the template to prevent the
AutoNew macro from running.

I'm trying to write a macro that will do the same thing.
The Macro Recorder will not recognize the shift key. When
I run the macro to open my template, the AutoNew macro
runs.

Does anyone know VBA code that I can use to Open a
Template for editing and prevent the AutoNew macro from
running?
