Do rules/colors not apply in search & other folders..?

OUTLOOK 2003 -- I've defined several rules which color messages in my Inbox.
But when these same messages are viewed via a search folder, or when they are
moved to a different Inbox subfolder, the colors are gone. It's like I have
to re-create every single rule for every single subfolder or search folder.

Is this right? Am I missing something?

I've been experimenting with Thunderbird -- when you create a rule in TBird,
it applies to every folder & subfolder, and messages stay colored no matter
what folder you view them from.

I'm hoping this isn't a shortcoming in Outlook -- if so, it's a big one in
my book.

Thanks very much for any help!

Yes, but then you must modify the default view template (Messages) instead
of only customizing the view of the current folder;
View-> Arrange By-> Current View-. Define Views

Thank you, Roady, very much! I think that did it!

Great to know it's there -- but wow, I would never have found that. Outlook
is powerful, but sometimes things are more complex than they should be.

I really appreciate your expertise. Thank you.
