do you want to revert to ? in office 97

Bill

Opening an office file in win xp always brings up the window "do you want to
revert to the save version of xxxx ?". Gives option of yes or cancel.
Nothing happens with either option, the file opens fine.
I got office 97 sr-2 with win xp home. Why is it doing this ?

It sounds like your documents are opening twice. If you encounter this
message when you open the documents outside of the application, such
as double-clicking them in on your Desktop, then the file associations
need to be recreated. For this go to Start/Run and run the following
commands for each of the Office applications you have installed:

winword /r
excel /regserver
powerpnt /regserver
msaccess /regserver

Note the space before the forward slash.
