.doc attahments fail to open after upgrading to Office 2004

I upgraded my wife's PB15 G4 10.4.9 to Office 2004 from V.x last
week. Now, any .doc attachments she tries to open from Entourage
comes up with a weird "Cannot open as file is in use or not a
valid .doc file" error message?

Would a reinstall of 2004 do the trick or what?
