*.doc fails to open

Outside Word, if I double click a *.doc file, Word opens but the document does not load into Word. Checked the file association and
confirm that it is OK. Norton Addin is disabled. Re-registration <winword /r> fails to resolve the problem. Sometimes I can get
Norton to return a message "Missing or Invalid Key: ".wll" the file extension ".wll" refers to an invalid program identifier
"Word.Addin.8." but the Norton repair fails to have a positive effect.

What should I try next?

Using Word 2002 (10.5815.4219)SP-2 and Windows XP Home Version 5.1.2600 SP-1 Build 2600

Exasperated,

Art

Run detect and repair from the Help menu in Word to fix any possible
corrupted dll. files. You might be asked for your Office CD during repair.
