I am unable to change the default program to Word for .doc files after
loading Office Home and Student 2007. If I open Word first, files open fine.
If I right-click on the .doc file and select C:\program files\microsoft
office\office 12\winword.exe to open it with, I get the error message: "is
not a valid Win32 application".
Also, while .docx and other extensions show "Microsoft Office Word" as their
current default, .doc only shows "WORD" after I manually select C:\program
files\microsoft office\office 12\winword.exe under the "Default Programs" tab
in Vista.
I have seen that this is a known problem on various websites, however, none
of the solutions recommended seem to work. Any help greatly appreciated.
