doc problem

I am a writer, old, barely conversant with computer
technology. My problem: Using Word 97, I will make a
correction, then the preceding sentences will disappear as
I come to them, so that I have to rewrite the sentences as
I go along. Hope I made this clear. Please advise if
you've seen and conquered this weird problem. Thanks, Dan

Dan,

Check to see if you have overstrike selected. With the Tools menus, select
Options then select Edit. Uncheck "Overtype Mode." Not sure about Word 97,
but you may be able to toggle this mode with the Insert Key or using the
information pane at the bottom of the document. If you see OVR in clear
black, double click it to toggle off the mode.
