I'm sure there is: speak to your Exchange Server Administrator.
That sounds like some seriously ancient scanning software is mangling the
file name on the way through.
Try zipping the file before you email it, just to see if it makes a
difference. There won't be any change in size, because a .docx is already a
zip.
But the change that is happening is the kind of thing that old-fashioned
badly-configured scanning software can make if it tries to act on the Mac
creator code and file type. Apple has deprecated the creator code and file
type, applications should not be responding to it any longer, they should
rely only on the file extension.
But they sometimes do, and if they do, they often process the file as if it
were an OS 8/9 file with a 30-character file name limit.
The server should update the scanner to a version that knows that Apple file
names can now be 1024 characters long.
Cheers

When I open a .doc, edit it, and save it as a .docx, and then e-mail it using
Entourage (Exchange), the file name gets truncated with the end being replaced
by some numbers when it is received (Entourage/Exchange). If I e-mail it using
Mac Mail (MobileMe), the saved .docx arrives with the correct complete file
name. Is there a solution?
