doc to pdf-- auto insertion of date

In using Office 2004 MS Word's print function to save a doc to pdf,
the current date is being automatically inserted into the header. The
date is not inserted when I print to the printer, only to pdf. I do
not want the date in the header, but I can't figure out how to turn
this "feature" off. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Dear L.S. McCarthy,

This is very unusual. Is there anything else in the header, e.g. that you
have put in there? Does the date get inserted in a text box or is there a
header there that doesn't involve a text box? What version of Word, what OS
version, what Mac? Please give as much information as possible.

Cheers,

re-visiting the newsgroup for several days after the first response comes

is provided; sometimes you'll be asked for further information. Good tips
about getting the best out of posting are at

Thanks for responding, Clive.
I am on a MacBook Pro, 2.33 Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.4.9, Office
2004.

In my Word document, I do have a line of text in the header (but just
regular text that I typed in). I tried deleting all the text in the
header and retyping but it didn't make a difference.) When I print
the document to a printer, only the text I typed appears in the
header.
The date in the header only appears after I convert the document
into a PDF, which I do from within Word using the print menu. (The
date that is inserted is the current date and it shows up after I
input the text.).

Thanks again for your help, I hope I've included all the relevant
info.

Clive, based on your original comment that this was very unusual, I
started looking at this individual file as the potential problem. I
copied the main body of text into a new document and recreated the
header and footers. The date no longer appears. I am not certain what
happened to that original but it seems to have been an isolated
problem. I still don't know what is wrong with the other file, but at
least I now have a work around for future occurances. Boy do I feel
dumb...I should have checked this out before I put out the call for
help! (Of course, I didn't think of it before your post) Sorry about
that.... I do appreciate your response!
Thanks, Laurie

Laurie,

Not dumb -- interesting! And I'm no stranger to "didn't think of it before
your post": people's questions and comments here are what keep me on my toes
and up to date.

I'm so pleased you took the work-around action that you did -- it was my
only option if you didn't come up with much of a lead. ;-)

Maybe there was an updating date field, formatted hidden, but why would it
only operate when printing to PDF? Goodness knows. Let's count our
blessings that you worked around it. And thank you for getting back.

Cheers,
