Dear [whoever]

If you are using a Mac, with the document open just key Command-p to print
then select PDF as a print option. The document won't print via your
printer; it will just be converted to a PDF.

If you are using a PC, you will need to post to a newsgroup that covers PC
versions of Word.

If you are on a PC, PrimoPDF and CutePDF get recommended frequently.

Goodghost,

What will you be doing with the PDF, or how will it be distributed?

All PDFs are not created equal. The PDF engine included in OS X creates
PDF 1.4 files, which are essentially Acrobat 5 compatible. These are
mainly for screen viewing, and are not necessarily optimized for
minimum file size. They are definitely not optimized for commercial
printing.

Also, PDFs created this way do not have hot URL links when viewed in
Preview (although Acrobat is able to parse them), nor are there any
tools to convert Word headings or styles to PDF bookmarks.

Under OS X, if your PDF files will just be viewed on a screen, and size
isn't a big concern, then the quickest way is use the OS X engine; if
you have Acrobat installed, and you need to add bookmarks, comments, or
other featuress, use the PDFMaker or Adobe PDF Printer.
