We've got win xp sp3.
Recently I converted a .doc file (word97) to rtf so that a friend could read
it using wordpad. She's got win xp sp3 also.
The file is readable except that all the quote (") characters around words
came out with an "A" at the beginning of the quote, and a "@" at the end.
(e.g. instead of "hello" it has Ahello@)
This isn't happening in wordpad on the machine that I used to convert and
send the file.
However, I found that if I highlight the document (in word97) and change the
font, and then change it back to the original, all the quotes now have the
"A-word-@" problem.
Also, the original was done with the "smart quote" format on. Someone
suggested changing the autoformat from "smart quote" to "straight" which I
did, but, so far, the only way to correct the problem is to go thru the
whole doc, instance by instance, and manually change it.
Help appreciated.
