Strange one that I hope somebody knows the answer to!
We have recently changed our file server from NT4 to SBS 2003. Since the
changeover we have found that existing word documents stored on the file
server which were created using a template (lab reports) are very slow to
load. Browsing folders etc. is fine and ordinary docs load instantly. I have
run a number of tests and have the following:
1. If the document is copied onto a local hard drive it is still very slow
to load.
2. If the computer is disconnected from the network (disable NIC) then the
same doc loads instantly!
3. The templates have no links to a database or anything like that - very
simple lab reports with tables.
4. Workstations are running XP Pro with Office XP & Oulook 2003
5. The only change on the workstations when the new FS went in was to change
to using Outlook 2003/Exchange Server for email. Previously used Outlook
Express and POP3
6. We have tried removing the anti-virus (Sophos) but made no difference
Any ideas?
Thanks
Colin
