docs won't open by double clk. associations and normal.dot OK

Word 2003 running in Windows 2000. Can't open file by double clicking.Word
opens then gives error. After acknowledging error, if I leave word open and
double click again file opens. Can open Word then file and it works fine.
Have deleted and rebuilt normal.dot and performed a registry dump of word.
Reinstalled Office and recreated file association to .doc files, still no
luck. Error message says can't find file or one of it's componets. Make sure
path correct and make sure required libraries are avaiable.
