'Document 1', 'Document 2', etc.

Is there any way to access the code that controls the automatic document
naming (numbering) functions of Word when a new (blank) document is added? I
want to be able to 'reuse' a previous number, but everytime a new document
is added (even when a previous document is not saved or in use), Word always
goes to the next number.

This is generally not a problem, but for a particular routine on which I
am working, the higher numbered 'Document X' it is confusing to the
end-user.

Hi Ed

As far as I know there is no way to tell Word to re-start its numbering.
Every new document it creates will get the next highest number until you
close Word and start again. If this is confusing for users, then one can
assume they never create more than a few documents a day.

Hope this helps.

Shauna,

That is exactly the audience I am targeting, and the reason for the
request. If you or others think of anything, let me know. Thanks.
