Document crashes continously when editing, printing, pdfing

I have an 87 page document that was initially created in Powerpoint and then
converted to Word (Ver. 2002). This document has been through multiple edits
(landscape charts and tables added, headers and footers, etc). The problem
is that the document crashes any time I attempt to print, save as, or convert
to pdf. I can navigate through it fine, but it locks up as soon as any of
the above actions are taken? The only exception is if I do a "print preview"
it will allow me to print it? I've also had the file restored prior to when
the issue began and it was fine until all of the edits were made namely the
headers and footers added to each page and the landscape pages added. Now
I'm back to square one. Any suggestions on what might be causing this issue
and any recommendations on how to avoid this happening again would be greatly
appreciated.

Open the document, select use SaveAs and choose RTF. Close the document and
Word. Reopen Word, launch the RTF document and choose SaveAs but hits time
save it back as a .doc again.

Does that resolve the problem?

No I just get the "program is not responding window" when I attempt to "save
as" then I have to do an "end task" to get it to close. When I re-open I get
the "file recovery" window.

Thank you very much for you time.

Test for an incompatible third party add-in causing this by starting Word in
Safe Mode. From Start, Run (Winkey+R) type in

winword /a

and press enter. Open the document and try printing to PDF now.

Sorry about the above post: it was sent to the wrong thread.

If this is just that lone document, it is suggesting the something is
seriously wrong with it. One more test: open it and SaveAs HTM. Close it and
close Word. Open Word and the htm file and SaveAs back to a Word document.
Does it now work correctly?

I agree. I'm not able to save it at all. I think it best to just re-create
the entire document.

Thanks again for all of your help!
