Document doesn't open

If an instance of Word 2002 is not running when I double-click a word icon
to open a document, the document will not open. Word starts okay but the
task pane appears on the left side of the screen (I have this turned off in
my
normal.dot) and the document never appears.

Any hints?

Hi Jo,

Try recreating the file associations and see if it rectifies the
problem. Go to Start/Run and run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.

Also, the Task Pane setting is stored in the Registry rather than your
Normal.dot.
