Probably I stupid question but I can't get rid of the header and page number from the front cover and table of contents of my thesis, any suggestions?

Also , the default for front cover and headings is blue font- how can I get this to change to black without doing each individually?

Thanks

Hi Rachel:

It's not a stupid question, but it IS a stupid template design :)

Go to Format>Document>Layout and make sure "Different First Page" is
checked. That disconnects the first page header and footer from the rest of
the section.

Then go to the Header and Footer on your cover page and simply delete the
page number and header (if there is any there).

Different first page enables you to have a different set of headers and
footers for the first page of the section. Different Odd and Even enable
you to set the document up for printing double-sided.

Do you have any other section breaks in the document? If so, you will need
to correct the one following the first accordingly unless you want to use
Different First Page there too.

The way these templates are set up, everything on the cover page is in
Normal style. That's a fairly lazy/ amateur way of making a template. You
wouldn't pay money for it...

So: You do in fact have to change each one individually, unless you apply
styles then format the styles. For the cover page, I would be tempted to
leave the styles and simply apply direct formatting, unless you are in a
professional document workgroup where styles are required.

Hope this helps
