document files not available

I cannot open saved word documents, including new
documents created since this problem, and documents saved
to media before occurrence of this problem; message:
file "file name" is unavailable.

I have reloaded word. no good.
I have updated norton anti-virus. no good.

All published fixes I have found that seem appropriate
lead to the use of the support template in the office
tools drop-down menu.
I have tried to access office tools word support
template, but i don't have the template in the drop-down,
so i downloaded the support template, however it will not
load; message: support template is not a valid win32
document.

Suggestions?

I have the same problem (just posted it). I'm using a
Dell Inspirion laptop - could this have any affect? I
installed service pack 3 and security updates on my
desktop and it works fine (except the macros are
disabled).

I'm running Symantec antivirus client (corporate edition -
same as Norton antivirus 2003?) on both computers and
only the laptop has problems. I ran Liveupdate as per
329820 but I still can't open documents.

Hi, John. If you had an older version of Norton Antivirus installed on
the laptop before you got Norton Corporate Edition, then the Office
Plugin from the older version could still be registered in Windows even
if you have uninstalled the older version. Search for the OFFICEAV.DLL
file on the laptop (include system and hidden files/folders). If you
find it, note the folder where it is located, and use the "regsvr32 /u"
method described in KB329820 to unregister the DLL.

I followed the instructions at the site. My Norton
antivirus will not open.

Internet security won't either.

Who can tell me what's going on, how to fix?

I'm john,
Chuck has the laptop.
I have a Presario EZ. I don't have the corporate edition
of anything, just windows xp home version.

We both have the same problem.

....and i can't perform the fix you mentioned earlier
because norton antiv won't open, either.

The start/run command in the last post fixed this problem!
Thank you for the valuable information.
