document imaging- can't open multipage color tiffs

I try to use Document imaging in Office XP 2002 to view
scanned multipage color documents.
When opening this documents I get 'no valid microsoft
office document imaging file'. For black and white tiffs,
it works fine.
Is this really not possible with Document Imaging?
