When was document imaging released?

I have it with office xp, but I was wondering if there was a version
available for office 97 or if this is a
indpendent product that can be installed regardless of your office version?

Office XP was the first version to provide this utility. It's not available
except through purchasing elements of the Office XP or Office 2003 suites.
