Document Imaging

Pieter

It appears (although I am sure) that the last automatic update broke MS
Office Document Image Writer. I cannot print from any application with it. I
have deleted the printer and installed it. I have also repaired office.
Nothing changed. I get the save dialog box, now printing and then it goes
into never-never land. No document Imaging window opens and no file can be
found

Rather than deleting...

Uninstall and then reinstall the MODI printer driver feature
using your Office 2003 CD. Instructions courtesy of Windows MVP
Carey Frisch:
1. Close all running applications. If you have any Office
application running, the driver will not be installed properly.
2. Go to "Control Panel" and "Add or Remove Programs".
3. Click on "Microsoft Office 2003" and then click on "Change".
4. Check "Add or Remove Features" and click "Next".
5. On the bottom of the page check "Choose advanced
customization of applications." and click "Next".
6. Under Microsoft Office click on the + sign in front of
"Office Tools"
7. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging",
click the icon and select "Not Available".
8. Click on "Update". This will uninstall the MODI driver.
9. Repeat steps 1 to 6 to go back to the same location you
were before.
10. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging",
click the icon and select "Run from My Computer".
11. Click on "Update".

you may likely have
a system restore point you
can revert back to a functional state
or
simply uninstall the update..

Thank you for your suggestions

Actually I had already done that also. It still does not work. What is
interesting is that the dialog box displays asking for the file name, the
driver will append numbers to end of the proposed name if one like already
exists and it does that correctly but file never appears and document does
not display even if the box saying to display is checked. It is strange. I am
not having any trouble on the other machines that I updated. It something
strange. I have other option but mdi is so much faster than PDF for example
that I miss it.

Thank you for your suggestion.

But I don't want to do that because of security concerns. I did update
several other system that do not exhibit the problem. So it was not a general
result. I will keep looking.

Hi Pieter,

Is the username and machine name the same?

Do you have the same issue if you print to a different local folder (on a separate drive if available)?

If you open MS Office Document Imaging separately and go to that folder with File=>Open are there any recent MDI files listed?

Have you cleared the internet temporary files and the files in the
Start=>Run %temp% folder?
