"Document is too large for Word to handle" message

Using Word 2002...
I was merrily entering words/meanings into my own Crossword dictionary for
the last few years. Occasionally, I'd have the document sorted A-Z by entry
just to clean it up.
Now, at 232 pages of 2-column, tab-justified entries, I get a "Document is
too large for Word to handle" message.

What's the deal? 'Thought MSWord was THE thing to use for desktop
publishing ??

Is there any way around this? Is this a memory issue? i.e. do all other
programs/applications have to be shut down?
Do I need to upgrade to newer version?

Also, how does one include an image (like *.jpg) with a post?

Thanks

Word is a word processor and not a publisher. For that you need PUBLISHER.

This sounds far more like you have corrupted the document as 232 pages is
relatively tiny. What is the file size?

Try opening the document using the Detect and Repair option. If that fails,
use the Recover Text from any File option. As it is only Text, the loss of
formatting shouldn't be a problem.

Terry,
Re; desktop publishing, guess I dont know much about Word....

Re; "The document is too large for Word to handle" problem; I tried both
suggestions.
The "Open and Repair" did nothing, as the same message came up.

The "Recover Text from Any File" option opened the file; however all
column, page info & tabs were lost. In this state, when Sort was used, the
same message still appeared.
