Document libraries in workspace - save docs off-line - ps2007

I was just trying to figure out how to work off-line with documents saved in
project workspaces or document libraries. The need is that someone may need
to take a document out of project server and work on it while off-line
without access to the servers. The person should be able to save and edit a
copy locally. Then the user should be able to check the document back in as
a new version. Can someone suggest the way this should be done in project
server 2007?

I tried checking it out and saving/editing it locally. When I open to local
copy it does not show a check-in option (probably because it is a local
copy!). Then went back in the doc library where the source, but there is no
way to check the local copy back in. I tried uploading a new copy and
selecting the "add as a new version to esxising files", but the filename MUST
be exactly the same which is sort of a pain ....

please advise.

Thanks

PedroJose:

You have to get over the matching file name is a a pain thing or this
doesn't work for you. How else is the system to know it's the same document?
Something has to remain the same. With this requirement observed, the system
works exactly as you want it to.
