document location

In other office products I can turn on a toolbar that displays the URL or
document location. Not in Visio. I find able to click on this url and do
a copy extremely useful. Makes it easy to send a document or create a
shortcut. For some reason there seems to be no way to do this in VISIO

I have not heard of that before. How do you do it in Word or Excel? Since
you refer to toolbars, is this in Office 2003 and earlier?

In Word 97 you can get the path from the File -> Properties menu.
The Location field can be selected and copied. Not so in Visio.

Okay, but that is not part of a toolbar. To find it in Word 2007 go Pizza,
Prepare, Properties.

The same information is available in Visio 2007 by going File, Properties
and select the General tab.

Prior to Office 2007 turning on the web toolbar will give you a URL to your
file. The Uniform Resource Locator is the same as the path. You click on
as if you are to make a change and then do a ctrl c to copy and you have the
path that you can reply to windows explorer or anything that needs that
complete path, such as a create shortcut. In Office 2007 the name was
changed to document location. With properties you can at least see the path
but you can't do a ctrl C and get the path. I need something easier!! And
it only shows C:\...\My Documents\Path\File so if you need the complete path
you are left to create what can be the hardest part.

As far as Word is concerned, there is an article on that
http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/word/HA101659011033.aspx
It basically says the toolbar was removed, but the commands can be added to
the QAT (Quick Access Toolbar). Thanks to all the choices, it is a bit
tricky to find, but what you need is Document Location.

This feature is not part of Visio's web toolbar.

Sorry I don't mean to be un thankful. But I already know the Visio web
toolbar does not do this and is different than the rest of the Microsoft
Office line. I was hoping someone had a macro or some other trick that they
use.

No offence taken. I was just restating what you had said for the benefits of
the lurkers.

For now, I am stumped for a good suggestion on how to do it.
You could try creating a macro like
Sub Macro1()
ActiveDocument.Company = ActiveDocument.FullName
End Sub

This will place the full name of the file in the Company field of the
Property dialog and it can be cut and pasted.

Alternately, you can use My Computer/Windows Explorer to right select the
file name and create a shortcut. Not as convenient, but still sendable and
you don't have to type out anything. Once you get used to keeping the My
Computer window open, it's just an extra step to create one. Of course, your
folder will need periodic purging to get rid of all of the shortcuts.
