Occasionally I completely lose an entire Word document when trying to save
it. I get a series of error messages
the first one reads “Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission
error (E:\0\!Current\Lesson\ScreenLesson.doc)â€
That message is immediately followed by one that reads: “Word failed reading
from this file ( ~WRL209.tmp)â€
Then there is at least one, perhaps two more messages – which I have yet to
capture since I can only copy one message out of the sequence.
I have had this happen several times over the past few weeks – and it is
most apt to happen when I am preparing a weekly lesson. It happened again
this morning.
The process of preparing the lesson includes copying text from a source
external to Word into a Word document. I then run a macro I have created to
clean up formatting in the document.
That is followed by some proof-reading and editing. The problem is most apt
to occur when I save after doing this – as it did this morning. Having had
this happen a number of times, I decided to do a “Select all,†copy the
entire document and paste it into a new document. I was able to do that
successfully, but then after the save error occurred, I found the new
document I had pasted the text into to be empty.
In the folder where I was trying to do the save I found two temporary files:
~$eenLesson.doc
~WRL2092.tmp
I was able to open ~$eenLesson.doc, but it contained only my name, some page
breaks and some box shaped characters. When I try to open the tmp file I get
a “File not found†message.
What do I need to do to keep this from happening?
