Document Map editing

I came across the Document Map facility by a lucky chance
and I am sure that it is exactly what I want for some of
my documents.
What I want to know is:

1. How to put paragraph headings of my choice into the
Document Map
2. How to add "sub" and "sab-sub" paragraphs to it.

I find the "Help and Support" useless on this subject,
unless I am looking under the correct headings.

The document map, like Outline View, reflects outline levels in your
document. Try formatting several paragraphs as Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading
3, etc., and observe the results. Note that using DM with text that is not
rigorously formatted with headings is likely to play havoc with your
document as Word tries to assign headings or outline levels based on your
formatting.
